What are Some Conversation Questions for Family?

With the Holidays fast approaching, you'll want to make the most of the time that you have together.

Here are some conversation questions for family that will get the ball rolling.

  • Where did you grow up?
  • What was it like there?
  • Who did you hang out with?
  • What did you do for fun?
  • How did you help around the house?
  • How did you get around town?
  • Were you involved in any extracurricular activities?
  • What were some of your favorite places to go to?
  • What do you want people to remember about you?

The most important part about these questions isn't asking them, it's documenting the conversation when you do.  Simply pull out your phone and hit record.

Ideally, you'll want to have a microphone close to the person you're recording to capture the best audio.

Do you have enough space on your phone to record a 30 minute or longer conversation?  It would be awful to run out of storage mid conversation, so you may need to clear out some unnecessary photos and videos.

Bonus things to consider where you're going to record.

- Make sure the person you're recording is well lit.  If there is a window behind them, but not a lot of light in front of them, switch places and have them face the window.

- If you have a room with carpeting, record there or anywhere where sound can be absorbed.

- Avoid being near a fan, refrigerator, or any device that is blowing air.

While this list isn't exhaustive, it will get you started.  Alternatively, you can hire me to record your stories professionally wherever you are.  We can do them in my downtown McKinney, TX studio, in your home or office, or we can record them for you virtually.

This isn't something you wait to do when you're getting up in years, this is something you do at any age to harness your legacy.
