Zoe guides the moment gently so the camera feels secondary to the time being spent together.

FAQ

How long does a portrait session take?

Session lengths vary depending on how many people are in the portrait. Most sessions last between 45 minutes and two hours. We go over all of these details during your consultation.

How do I schedule a session?

The easiest first step is reaching out through our website, email, or phone. We will talk through your vision, your timeline, and your space during a private consultation. A deposit is required to secure your date.

Do you record virtually?

Yes. Our strong preference is to record in person so that we achieve the most professional production possible. We understand, however, that some families are continents apart, and we are happy to discuss virtual options during your consultation.

Do you travel?

Yes. We can travel anywhere in the world. Whether you have a lake house, a cabin, a ranch, or another destination, we can meet you there. Travel options and fees are discussed during your consultation.

Is this something we can do at an event such as a reunion or wedding?

Yes. We are happy to set up a conversation area at your event provided we have a suitable recording space. This is something we coordinate directly with your event planner.

How do you record at events?

Guests are invited into the recording area one or two at a time for a guided conversation about the guest of honor and the impact they have made on their lives. 

How long does the recording take?

The length of your session is decided during the consultation call. A standard interview runs approximately one hour, though it may be shorter or longer depending on what you have in mind.

Where does filming take place?

During your consultation, we will help you decide what works best for your family. Options include our private studio inside The MillHouse in downtown McKinney, your home, or another location that accommodates everyone involved.

Do you only record indoors?

Weather permitting, we are able to film outdoors. Most clients prefer an indoor setting where the climate is controlled and ambient sound is managed, but outdoor sessions are available and can be discussed during your consultation.

What should I wear?

During your consultation, you will be offered the opportunity to have Zoe come to your home and help you choose what to wear. For clients coming from different locations across Dallas–Fort Worth, we discuss options during the consultation call.

Why an in-home wardrobe consultation?

Two reasons. First, certain patterns can produce a moiré effect when filmed, which affects the final quality of your footage. Second, if we are filming in your home, seeing the space in advance helps us make the best decisions about lighting, setup, and styling.

Is this awkward?

The purpose of every consultation and session is to make sure everyone involved feels at ease. The recording process is simply a guided conversation. Most clients tell us they forgot the camera was even there.

When will I receive my files?

Editing takes time to ensure the highest quality. Most films  and portraits are delivered within three weeks. Extended interviews may take up to six weeks. Rush processing may be available for an additional fee.

Will I always have access to the recordings?

Your recordings are securely backed up on Forever.com. You will have ongoing digital access through your private login credentials.  

Who will have access to the recordings?

The recordings belong entirely to you. We will only share your films with your express written consent. 

Should I include my children?

Absolutely. We highly encourage you to include the most important people in your life. Children bring an honest, unfiltered perspective that is irreplaceable. They do not stay little for long.

Am I able to include my pet(s)?

Depending on the location you choose, yes. We are happy to include pets and can discuss the best approach during your consultation.

How often should I document my life story?

At minimum, once in a lifetime. We strongly encourage beginning as early as age five and returning at major milestones: the birth of a child or grandchild, a significant anniversary, a business transition, or an upcoming retirement. Your story is still being written. Documenting it is not a one-time event.

Is documenting a life story something I do for myself or as a gift for others?

Both. It is a gift to yourself to know your story has been kept, and it is one of the most meaningful things you can leave for the people you love.

How many people can you record at once?

One or two people per conversation is ideal. We can accommodate more, but we find that smaller groups allow for a richer, more personal recording.

Are you able to include family photos and/or home movies into the life story recording?

Yes. We encourage you to gather printed photographs and home movie clips to incorporate into your final film. The options available to you depend on the experience you choose.

Can I choose the songs for the recording?

Music licensing regulations vary by state and intended use. We discuss music options during your consultation and work to find the best solution for your film.

What questions will you ask?

We discuss this during your consultation. If you have specific questions or topics you would like addressed, we are happy to accommodate them.

What if I do not want you to share my recording?

That is entirely your decision. We never share client recordings without express written permission.

What if I say something I did not mean to say during the recording?

You will receive a rough cut before the final film is delivered. Anything you want removed, we will take out.

Your story is happening right now. The voices, the routines, the way your family gathers, all of it is worth keeping, not because anything is ending, but because something beautiful is fully alive.
